MBSMA is an organization founded on the understanding that there is absolutely nothing that we can do about the past. That there is a potential inside each and every one of us to be and do anything we want to do. Ever wonder what happened between when we were all kids, and adults told us that we can grow up to be anything? What happened to that? Why are we left with only THIS? We teach that each moment we recognize there is no going back to the way things were, and to do so would only be a curse. From this prospective we look at this moment and realize that we can do anything we choose. The only question left when you look at life in this way is “What do I want to do?”

The Disconnected Life

Most of the time we go through life based on the routine that we have created for ourselves. And, for most of us, this routine could use some improvement. Our minds are always on something else. Our bodies are abused neglected and mistreated. And our spirit is left wanting something more than what we are feeding it.

There are those of us that are dealing with some very difficult things such as the loss of a job, foreclosure on a home, business failing, abuse from family, or other things that I can’t think of, and there are those of us who are doing really well and for the most part enjoy everything that we have and do, but perhaps there is just this one little area where it could be better. No matter what you are dealing with, or simply want to improve on, we take it on in the same way. Mostly we have an idea that life “could” be better but we “don’t know how” to do it, or that we “can’t do it” or “can’t do it right now.”

The student of martial arts gains a firm grasp on the present. When in a fight, you MUST focus on what is directly in front of you, and everything that doesn’t matter truly falls away. When fighting for your life, you quickly throw all distraction away and do everything you can to hold onto your life. You no longer care about your job, what your family thinks of you, how much money you have in savings, the state of the economy, or that there is laundry to do. You simply deal with what is in front of you. This is for many students a relief to live life this way, and for a few brief moments take your mind off of the “clutter” in your life.

Take a closer look at “Becoming a Student”

For too long our martial arts in the USA has served as at best an “art” and at worst a “sport”. Far from reaching the true potential of the martial arts, most students of the martial arts do not study the introspective and most powerful part of the martial arts. Too many schools of martial arts are focused on the physical and business aspect of martial training. As a result our communities are too often “dysfunctional” with violence, mistrust, and abuse happening in our families and personal relationships. MBSMA and our partners are engaged in conversations which promote healing, peace, and power. These conversations keep people engaged in what is possible for their lives, keeping focused on the reality of their current situations and emotions to master the things in life that they choose to in order to achieve any lifestyle they wish.
