A Community in Action
Can you think of a time when you were asked to be more then you believed you could be?
- Martial Arts Communities Committed to Making a Difference:
- Martial Arts In Our Schools:
- Non-Profit Martial Arts Academies:
Our goal is to have a martial arts school working with every domestic violence organization by April 2011. Martial arts instructors from all foms and styles of martial arts will be recruited to make an impact in their communities greater than providing for their current paying students. These instructors will work with the organizations to set up programs for the public they serve (victims/survivors of domestic violence) to get the teachings of the martial arts. The focus is to teach the empowerment found in martial arts to people who grew up in, or experienced domestic violence. This is to give them access to new ideas of POWER, PEACE, & FAMILY.
Long ago the martial artists in the community were asked to protect their people. Back then it meant developing a unique style of martial arts that was then kept secret, and passed down through families to protect that homeland. In our modern lifestyle, the protection of our community is best left to military and police. The values of the martial arts have been lost to the community, and it is time to revitalize them.
This is the leading edge! This is the proactive step in making a difference to end the patterns of domestic violence in our society. Right now we don’t have schooling that focuses on instilling discipline, self-control, empowerment, and leadership such as is found in the martial arts. Our sports programs have long since been the place where psychologically speaking we have developed our moral backbone of competition. In our school system this has been celebrated time and again with pep rallies and team rivalry. When did it become popular to sensationalize the destroying of the other team’s mascot? What purpose does it serve if the fight doesn’t end with the game?
Our goal is to set up a system of instruction for our public school system. We are working with school teachers and other programs that have already been approved by school boards in order to expand martial arts programs in our schools. We will have our qualified instructors come in and teach the classes 2-3 times per week and the PE teachers will be advisers and assistant instructors.
Mind Body Spirit Martial Arts is opening in SEATTLE, WA, Capital Hill area. We are currently looking for a space to do martial arts. This will operate as a college does; accepting tuition and providing quality martial arts instruction to the general public. This school will provide the funding for the rest of the organization, and provide payment to instructors to make it worth their time and energy to make this difference. This will forward the martial arts community as it is currently very hard to become a paid instructor without owning a school.
